The Directorate General for the Information Society (DG INFSO) will change its name. As of 1 July 2012, it will be known as the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, or “DG CONNECT”. “Our new name better represents the range of topics where we are active”, explained Director General Robert Madelin (>Fig. 1), “and our new structure better aligns the work of the DG with key EU policies for the coming decade: ensuring that digital technologies can help deliver the growth which the EU needs.”
The structure of the new DG, its mission statement, and a detailed breakdown of the tasks of the individual units, task forces, and advisers can be found at Opens external link in new windowhttp://ec.europa.eu/dgs/information_society/connect_en.htm.
